New Year’s Day walk
On the first day of the year it’s one of our family traditions to go for a walk together with our dog and meet up with friends if we can. This year it was just us; me, my husband Julian and daughter Lily. Tom had to work at the Hub cafe in Gisburn Forest so he couldn’t come with us.
On the other hand though, we had a new addition to our walking party this year… Jasper our new rescue dog and latest unruly member of the family. Life has certainly become more interesting since he joined the pack!
We decided to take to the high ground to avoid the mountain bikers and walkers who descend on the Forest on high days and holidays.
Up at Bowland Knotts it’s like being on top of the world, you could see for miles and not another soul in sight. Perfectly peaceful.
The ground was soft underfoot on the fell but the dogs were in heaven and as we climbed upwards onto the rocks to the trig point the landscape opened up to give us the most stunning 360 view.
A circular walk took us back down and across the fell back to a track which took us to the start with soggy boots but happy dogs.
What a great way to spend the day and start of 2019. My New Year’s resolution is to find many more unexplored walks!
